Antique Wardrobe Refinish

Antique furniture is always a pleasure to work with. It is so different from contemporary furniture. Each time when we work with the antiques, we keep wondering how people used to make furniture. Antique furniture is made much better than today. People used to pay so much attention to the material and details. The main goal of contemporary furniture is cost reduction and optimization. Antique furniture is more expensive to restore and refinish than modern because it was handmade. So, when we work with the antique furniture, we still have to work with hands most of the times. It requires special knowledge about wood, fabric, different materials, and how they intertwine together.

This is a story about a 150 years-old wardrobe that was brought from Europe by the client’s relatives. This piece of furniture is priceless for the client because it belonged to their beloved ones.

Original Wardrobe before Restoration

We picked up the wardrobe and we took it apart. In our facility, the magic happened. First, we refinished the wood – there was much manual work required. One small part had to be replaced as it became rotten. The wardrobe had a lot of curves, we sanded it manually. Finally, we protected the wood with a very durable and good stain, assembled the wardrobe, and delivered it back to the client.

The wardrobe got a second life after refinish. After the work was completed, it looked gorgeous. Again and again we understand why people prefer to restore the furniture instead of being a new one. Today, we won’t find the same quality as it used to be, unless it is very expensive.
