Wooden Armoire Customization

Marina’s Crafts specializes not only in wood refinish and reupholstery, but also in furniture customization and in brand new furniture making. A customer chooses a type of the wood (oak, redwood, walnut, douglas fir, marble, etc.), then gives us the drawings of the furniture. And then we make it! Very often we work closely with designers who need customized furniture for their clients.

Our recent customer had this gorgeous large wooden antique armoire which arrived from Europe. The customer travels a lot and takes his furniture with him. Unfortunately, he often has problems with transportation and delivering it to the new house. He has recently moved to San Francisco, and came across this problem again. We were asked to cut the wardrobe in three pieces and make them removable ease the transportation.

During the process we found out that the wood started falling apart, most likely because it had been transported so much. So in order to cut the wardrobe in three pieces, we had to reinforce its structure. The wardrobe was cut into three pieces and assembled back with the special locks. After that, we restored the look of the wardrobe. In addition, the customer asked us to make new shelves and insert a rod so that the wardrobe can serve its purpose.

In sum, our carpenters reinforced the wood giving the wardrobe a longer life, customized the wardrobe the way the customer wanted, so that it can be disassembled and assembled back without damaging the structure. Finally, we made a restoration to cover all the new cuts. The designer and the customer were very satisfied with our work, as our carpenters are really knowledgeable and have more than 20 years of experience working with wood.
