Antique Table Refinishing -why refinishing at all

Restauration/Refinishing of wooden furniture has always been in demand. Wooden furniture is valuable because it is durable, beautiful and unique. It has always been a burden to find a really nice and good piece of furniture especially nowadays where the market is full of cheap, poorly made, plywood furniture.

There are so many advantages in buying a good wooden dining table, in the long run the expensive wooden table is more economically reasonable than purchasing a cheap plywood one.  The wooden table will last forever, you just do refinishing/ restoration and it is as good as new. Also, practically it is easy to maintain. If the table is properly done - the polish is proper and good quality - it protects the table from literally everything: hot, wet or greasy food. Moreover, compared to a glass table, the wooden table is much easier to keep clean, fingerprints or small greasy spots are not that obvious. As for the plywood furniture - it is very affordable and looks good, but in the long run, it gets broken very quickly and you will have to buy it more often. So if you can afford to go for good wooden furniture: oak, marple, walnut or pine - - I would highly recommend it.

One more very important reason why clients choose to refinish the furniture. Let’s imagine that you have wonderful antique chairs, they are beautiful and you value them. Maybe you got it from your grandparents or found it in an antique store for a good price. The chairs are a real deal but in bad shape, cloth is worn out, the foam in the cushions is old and needs to be replaced or wood is scratched or darkened. In this case refinishing and reupholstering them is a great solution.

Recently, we have got a client that has this beautiful antique table forever and kept it in the basement. The table was maybe a hundred years old, the wood looked really outdated, darkenet with scratches and dents, some screws were lost and some parts of wood were dried out and needed restoration. The client found a bigger house and remembered the old table which would fit perfectly in the new house. The decision was made, they found our Refinishing company- Marinas’crafts and the work was started. The dried wood has been fixed, all surfaces were sanded down and new coats of stain and protective polish were reapplied. We, finally, delivered the table and put it in the new dining room where the table so organically became part of the interior design.  The pictures attached to the article show how the table used to look like before the refinishing. Wait for the next article to see how this table looks like now.

If you have something similar, like old worn out cloth that needs to be upholstered, or wood that needs to be refinished and repaired, you are always welcome, we are glad to help you for the moderate price. Please call us at 650-580-3897.
