It has been always popular to make a new furniture especially when it comes to the dining area. It may appear that it is so simple and nothing special it is just a dining table after all. I have been working with wood for more than 20 years and may certainly say that dining tables are all different in ornament, wood texture, design, dimensions, shape, texture etc… For example, when clients call and ask how much it costs to refinish a dining table, I give only the money frame and final quote after seeing the table.

I have been working in California for sometime already doing furniture refinishing and making new furniture. California is a blessed region with beautiful lamber. It is easy to find a beautiful piece of wood that can become a beautiful table. Most popular types of lamber for the table are walnut (most expensive too), oak, redwood/mahogany, birch, even maple. There are so many types of dining room tables available on the market, I know how it is difficult to decide. Here is the list with some ideas that might help to decide the One for your home.

Round or Pedestal Dining Table

San Francisco and it’s surrounding areas are known for its’ lack of space so round or/and pedestal tables are a good fit. They are easy to place in a breakfast nook or even on a balcony. Plus, customers usually order them with extendable leaves, which is extremely convenient. Generally, there can be from 2 to 6 and even more people seated. Here customers may choose different types of the base: wood, metal or stone -this will be a beautiful unique design that will fit into the dining room.

Generally, traditional dining sets have a classical rectangular or square shape, very sturdy, heavy and long-lasting. Clients particularly choose between chestnut brown to cherry or espresso, or even black. They are beautiful in classical antique interiors. It s always nice to add into your interior design some linens, metallic chargers, decorative plates to make the dining room more personal.

Rustic/ Provence

n California rustic/Provence types of tables become more and more popular. The texture is the most important in here. Walnut or oak look really great. In this case the choice of oil is the most important. I would not recommend to cover this wood with paint as it will hide the beauty of the chosen lamber. These types of tables are long lasting, easy to carry. It is easy to refinish or change the shade of the color as usually the table is made off the solid piece of wood. It will last for ever. The rustic types are pricy because of the lamber, walnut or oak are usually the most expensive types but it totally worth it.

Marble Dining Room Table

The beauty of marble is that it perfectly blends sturdiness with sophistication. Marble dining tables add elegance and a luxe, high-end element to any dining space. Most marble dining tables feature marble on the tabletop, but some could serve as the base with a glass top instead. A solid marble dining table will be extremely heavy and durable, but it will also create a dramatic effect in any dining room. Look for marble in a variety of colorways include white with gray veining, dark green, or pure white to create an elegant air in your dining room.

Expandable tables are very popular in the Bay Area. If you have a big family or love to entertain but you’re also short on space, an expandable dining table could be the perfect solution. Drop-leaf tables are a common choice, and they’re extremely easy to adjust as you need to. Some expandable dining tables include a built-in section in the center that allows them to expand or contract.

There is no particular wood type - any lamber will look great. Even the glass shape and color has a bit variety.
