How does it work to Refinish furniture

How does the process of furniture refinishing work? Another question: I have a small scratch on the table and the rest of the table is great. Can we repair just that scratch? These two questions are the most popular when I speak with a customer for the first time and I understand why. It is really frustrating when you have to refinish the whole table top instead of that scratch.

Unfortunately, the answer to the second question - If we can repair just a scratch, the answer is no. To understand why, let's start from the beginning. If there is a scratch, the only way you can remove it and make it even is to sand down the spot where this scratch is. Let’s imagine we have done that, and you see a wooden clear spot. Next, you have to match this white spot to the stain that is applied to the surface. And this is a tricky part, the tables do not have standard colors, each table has its own shade and color. You need to mix different colors yourself in order to approach(and we can do that, no problem), the other problem is how this clear spot will absorb the stain, and it will be different because the stain that is already applied it was there for a while and the color got slightly faded or changed over the time. What I am trying to say is that it is impossible to make a beautiful even surface when refinishing just one spot. Plus, when you sand down a surface you make it all even, one level, with one spot refinishing you can imagine how wavy the table will be. If you have just a dent or a scratch on the table surface and you want it professionally refinished into a new one - there is only one way is to refinish the whole surface.

How the process works from the very first conversation. First of all, we ask the customers to send a picture of their furniture and dimension. Based on that picture we can give the price. The price usually depends on how difficult the furniture is, if it is all straight or has curves and ornaments, and how long the piece of furniture. If the client agrees with the quote, we set up a date and time and pick up the furniture. We usually reserve around two weeks to refinish a table (as an example). If something more difficult comes up, for example, some wooden parts need replacement or fixing, we contact the customer and notify him/her before starting the additional work. When the work is done, we deliver the furniture and take the payment for the finished work. The same workflow goes with reupholstery jobs. The only thing is we pick the fabric first.
