Our Recent Projects With Restaurants: Spring 2022

If you’ve been wondering what our team has been up to recently, we’re about to share some of our most exciting recent projects. At Marina’s Crafts we love our local businesses, especially ones that serve delicious food. We’ve completed two more projects for local restaurants in San Francisco, and we look forward to doing more business with our valued customers.

Project 1: Table Top Refinishing With Polyurethane:

Table surface quality is a constant problem for restaurants. The tabletop surfaces get a lot of beating, scraping, wetting and all kinds of other bad treatment you would expect to see on a heavily used surface. That’s why it’s so important to protect the tops of the tables with a durable finish, and we haven’t come across anything better than Polyurethane finish for this application. Polyurethane is hard, durable and moisture resistant. It’s probably the hardest top finish on the market right now.

The process of refinishing old banged-up or scratched tables with a new coat of Polyurethane goes as follows:

  1. Sand down the previous layers of top coat and stain to reveal natural wood underneath:

2) Apply stain to natural wood to achieve desired color and saturation

3) Apply several coats of Polyurethane with a spray gun to achieve a hard, durable finish that will last for years:

You will see that here our customer required something that went well with the overall look of a tavern / pub style restaurant, and we’ve applied a distressed wood effect to the table top to give it that rustic look, without compromising the finish’s durability and integrity. We hope these serve well for years to come!

Project 2: Booth Seat and Back Surface Renovation

Wood refinishing is not our only strength. Marina, the owner of our business, is an expert tailor and seamstress, and therefore she can do wonders with any kind of fabric, faux leather or real leather. Booth seats are usually another pain point for restaurants, as any scuffs, cracks and tears significantly detract from the overall experience their customers have. We’ve recently completed 3 projects of renovating restaurant booths, where Marina’s skills played a pivotal role.

Booths are unique, because they require a combination of structural furniture knowledge, reupholstery and sewing skills. We are proud of the end results you can see on the booths we’ve re-done for our customers this spring (the old covers were checkered, we put on the plain faux leather):

Our aim is to make projects as simple and convenient as possible, for restaurants of all sizes. Our most common projects involve refinish of wood tables and seats, reupholstery of booths and other upholstered items. However, we are always open to work on any custom projects the restaurant may have, and we also offer custom-made furniture manufacturing.
