It is time to Refinish Wooden Furniture
I always get a question when the wooden furniture should be refinished. Of course we do refinishing work all year around but a really good time for wooden furniture refinishing is starting now - late spring, the whole summer till the middle of fall. It is the perfect time to do the refinishing of outdoor furniture: tables, benches, chairs, decks and patios. The wood during this season is perfectly dry and the refinishing process goes quickly and smoothly.
I must say that even indoor furniture: tables, dressers, chairs etc are much better to refinish during summer than winter. During the summer season we have an augmented number of orders for outdoor wooden structures, decks, patios, sidings or fences.
Our general process consists of several stages. The first stage is when we sand down the old coatings till the wood is clean and beautiful again. We don’t use nasty chemicals to remove the old finish as it badly destroys the structure of the wood. When the wood is clean we apply stain or oil depending on the clients’ wishes. The third stage is a long one, we apply several coatings of polish. The quantity depends on the wood, its properties and how it should look in the end. Each layer has to dry up completely before applying the new one. Otherwise the surface will become sticky.
Refinishing really helps to make the wooden furniture look like new. Very often our clients say that their furniture started looking even better than when they just bought it. It is understandable, many manufacturers do a great job, but it is a standard process, they optimize it so the time they consume becomes more profitable and it often hurts how the furniture looks. We are not large manufacturers; each table or dresser has a personal approach. We try to make the best of the wood that we have got. As an example, in some cases we make deeper sanding and the wood becomes smoother and grains start looking nicer.
If you plan on refinishing indoor or outdoor furniture, summer time is approaching and we are happy to help you do it.
